The Private Security Industry Act 2001 (PSIA) requires the private security industry to be regulated with certain designated activities covered by license for each person employed.
Each person employed in the above sectors will require checks to be completed on their background (criminal records check and so on). Also they will be required to complete an industry standard training course in their area of security practice. Only on successfully completing this training course will the applicant be deemed competent and awarded certification and license. The PSIA will produce a register of reputable security companies to help organisations engage the services of those on the register. The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is the organisation targeted with licensing of manned guarding (security officers) and key holders under contract. Ensuring people working in the security industry are fit and proper persons who are both trained and qualified in their area of security practice.
